Columbus woman injured in Jackson County Crash

May 20, 2023, Troopers from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post investigated a single vehicle personal injury crash that occurred on I-65 in southern Jackson County that resulted in a passenger being airlifted from the scene for treatment of serious injuries. The initial investigation indicated that at approximately 3:30 pm yesterday, a brown 2007 Dodge, being driven by Edward D. E. Garrett, age 32, Columbus, Indiana, was traveling northbound on I-65 near the 42 mile marker, just north of Crothersville, Indiana.  For an unknown reason, Garrett lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the road and rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its top.  Edward Garrett was not injured in the crash.  Garrett’s wife, Valerie Garrett, age 32, Columbus, Indiana, was entrapped in the vehicle with possible serious injuries.  The Seymour Fire Department extricated her from the vehicle.  She was flown from the scene for further treatment.  Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.Investigators believe speed and unsafe lane movements played a role in the crash.  Edward Garrett submitted to a test for intoxication.  Those results are pending at this time.I-65 Northbound was closed for approximately 1.5 hours for crash investigation and cleanup. The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Crothersville Police Department, Seymour Fire Department, Vernon Township Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, IU Medical Helicopter, and Howard’s Wrecker Service.                       SGT.
