From the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department
On 04/16/2023 at approximately 5:28 AM deputies from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office
responded to the 500 blk of E 650 S in regards to a welfare check on a female resident. Deputies were
unable to make contact with anyone at the residence. During the investigation a property owner
reported an abandoned suspicious vehicle in a field in the 2000 blk of E 800 S. After further
investigation the vehicle was found to be connected to the victim’s residence.
While investigating the suspicious vehicle a citizen reported a male subject hiding in the woods near the
650 S address. A perimeter was established around the wooded area and a sheriff’s office K9 was called
to conduct a search. Deputies located the subject a short time later and he was detained without
incident.
As the investigation continued a search warrant was granted for the residence. During the search the
female resident was found deceased inside the home. For victim information contact the Bartholomew

The male, Anthony W. Carter, was remanded into the custody of the jail facing an allegation of murder murder and he also has an unrelated out of county warrant.
