From the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department –
On January 1, 2022, at approximately 1:29 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 59.5 mile marker on Northbound I-65 in response to a multi-vehicle accident.
Upon deputies arriving on scene, one female, later identified as Heather A Wallace, 40 of Indianapolis, was found to be deceased. Columbus Regional EMS transported multiple subjects to Columbus Regional Hospital.
Due to the size of the scene and the need for Crash Reconstruction Units to conduct their investigation, I-65 was shut down from approximately 1:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. The investigation is ongoing.
“This investigation into the cause of this incident is still ongoing however, we have seen an increase in traffic collisions resulting in fatalities and injuries. The Sheriff’s Office would again like to remind the public to drive safely and responsibly,” said Chief Deputy Chris Lane.
