ISP investigating two interstate shootings over the weekend


Indianapolis, IN – Detectives from the Indiana State Police are investigating a shooting that allegedly occurred on I-65 in downtown Indianapolis overnight December 11, 2020. The incident injured one man and claimed the life of another man. At 1:30 a.m. on December 12, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department contacted the Indiana State Police reference a shooting that had occurred on the ramp from Washington Street to I-65. A male who had been shot, drove himself and his wounded passenger to a local hospital. The hospital contacted IMPD who turned the investigation over to ISP when it was determined the shooting occurred on the interstate.

Preliminary investigation led detectives to believe between 11:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. a male driving a white Dodge Charger was entering I-65 from Washington Street when he and his passenger were both shot. At this time investigators are not sure where or who the shots came from. The passenger, 22 year old Kevin Gordon Jr., was fatally wounded. The driver suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Investigators are asking for assistance from anyone who was in the area of I-65 and Washington Street in Indianapolis the night of December 11 between 11:30 p.m. into the morning of December 12 at 1:00 a.m. and may have witnessed this incident.

A second shooting occurred later that day, December 12th, 2020, at approximately 6:45 p.m. This incident is believed to be a result of road rage and happened on I-465 near Michigan Road. Detectives believe the driver of a white Dodge Charger pulled alongside a pick-up truck and fired at least one shot. A bullet struck the passenger side of the truck, the driver of the truck was not injured.

Detectives do not believe these two incidents are related and the investigations are ongoing.
