Margaret Mary Covid Update

Margaret Mary Health COVID-19 Update: 12.27.21

This past week, we’ve seen the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19, as well as the positivity rate for COVID-19 testing both decline. We are hopeful this trend continues as we move into the near year.

Inpatient Care:   We currently have 25 patients on our Med Surg floor, with 3 of those patients in our Special Care Unit and 3 on ventilators.  14 of our patients are Covid+ (positive). (See charts for current patient volumes.)

ER:  Our ER is still very busy and wait times are longer than normal.  We understand this can be frustrating, but please know our teams are working hard and as quickly as possible to see every patient who needs care.  Our supply of the monoclonal antibody therapies used to treat patients with high risk for severe Covid-19 remains low.

Testing:  The number of patients testing positive for COVID-19 has declined this week, with 23.6% of patients (75 in total) testing positive.  (See chart for testing details).  We recommend for asymptomatic patients or those with mild illness to refrain from using the ER for testing. Instead, those who need to be tested for Covid-19 should schedule an appointment at a local testing site through coronavirus.in.gov or contact their primary care provider for an outpatient test to be completed through our lab.

Vaccination: Everyone ages 16 and older can receive the vaccine and are also recommended to receive a booster shot if it has been at least 6 months after completing the Pfizer or Moderna vaccination series, or at least 2 months after completing the Johnson & Johnson vaccination. Children ages 5 and older are eligible for an age-appropriate dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.   Vaccine appointments can be scheduled Monday – Friday at the MMH Occupational Health and Wellness Center in Batesville at 812.932.5105.   Vaccine appointments can also be made Monday – Friday at the Margaret Mary Health Center in Brookville at 765.647.5126.  Walk-ins are also welcome in Brookville.

The Southeast Indiana Health Center and the Indiana Department of Health are also hosting a free mobile testing and vaccination clinic to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on December 27, 28 and 29 from noon until 8 p.m. at SEIHC, 920 County Line Road, Suite B in the Batesville Area Resource Center. Register online by visiting ourshot.in.gov or call 211 (866-211-9966) and a representative will schedule your appointment. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are accepted.
