New Security Scanner at Work in the Bartholomew County Courthouse

NEW SECURITY SCANNER LOCATES ITEMS NOT ALLOWED INSIDE THE BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY COURTHOUSE

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office provides uniformed presence at the Bartholomew County Courthouse. Correction’s Officers/Special Deputies are responsible for all enforcement and security to the building, scanning all who enter and searching all packages brought into the facility.

While the Courthouse was closed to the public during the pandemic, improvements to Courthouse security were made.

On May 11, 2021, the first day that the new scan was operational, it identified a loaded magazine and a knife inside a handbag. Yesterday, May 12, 2021, second day of operation, a razor blade was located. Today, deputies found a credit card knife.

No weapons of any type are allowed inside the Courthouse. Without this new scanner, some or most of the items, would not have been located.

Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers reminds elected officials, employees and visitors to the Courthouse that The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for Courthouse security. “All patrons of the Bartholomew County Courthouse are required to go through the security check and no weapons, of any kind, are allowed inside”, said Sheriff Myers.

The Sheriff’s Office DOES NOT provide a place to hold prohibited items; they are to be secured in vehicles or left at home.
