The Animal Control Board held a special session due to concerns that were brought up at the 2/3/25 Commissioners meeting. A citizen voiced concerns over a dangerous dog in her neighborhood.
Minde Myers, Greensburg Decatur County Animal Shelter Director provided information on the dog and its owner. She stated that they have had several complaints and contacts with the owner. Minde went through the incidents that were recorded by the Animal Control Officer and Decatur County Communications since 2021. There were at least 9 calls logged to the dog owners address due to running at large, biting other animals, and killing cats. Minde stated that citations have been written, letters have been sent about complaints, and they continue to have gone unanswered and the citations unpaid.
The animal control board unanimously voted to seize the dog, deem it as dangerous, and take irreversible action when appropriate. The board did discuss that per the ordinance the owner will have an appeal period before irreversible action can be taken.
