Decatur County Area Plan Commission

The Decatur County Area Plan Commission met on Wednesday.

Maurice & Wendy Bohman requested to “vacate” the McCamment Subdivision Plat and to “rezone” approx. 10 acres of the 44.4303 acres from an A-1/A-2 zoning classification to a B-2 zoning classification to build a Wedding Venue (event center). They believe that the venue will be private and picturesque for weddings and other similar events. It will help to bring outside revenue to Decatur County and the venue will take care of all wedding needs. The board believes that they have put together a nice business plan, however have received calls and letters from concerned neighbors. One letter signed by multiple neighbors voiced multiple concerns and are strongly against the rezone due to increases in property value, noise, traffic, and trash as well as a disregard for the rural area and courtesy of their neighbors. A main concern of the neighbors was the traffic on the driveway which is currently only a single car wide. The petitioners plan to widen the driveway all the way back to the area to 18-20 feet wide so that it can be two way. Another neighbor held concern for the runoff produced by the parking lot and building, however the drainage board would not allow this to be an issue. The board discussed where or not the permanent rezone was their best option and in the best interest of the area, as a B-2 zoning has a lot of openness. The property is owned by the petitioner in Greensburg, Salt Creek Township. Petition 2022-19 was tabled for further review.

John & Amanda Organist requested to “Rezone” approx. 2.99 acres from an A-1 zoning classification to an A-2 zoning classification for construction of a single family detached dwelling. This will be on well water. The property is owned by the petitioner and in Westport, Sand Creek Township. Petition 2022- 20 was approved.

Adam Millering is Petitioning to “Subdivide” approx. 2.99 acres out of 44.46 acres and “Rezone” approx. 2.99 acres from an A-1 zoning classification to an A-2 zoning classification for construction of a single family detached dwelling. There is an existing easement for the drive that leads back to the parcel. A neighbor came to the meeting to state that the drive had only ever been maintained by them and while they are not against a house being built there, they don’t want a lot of traffic on that road. The petitioners goal is to keep the land as natural as possible and there will not be much traffic. The property is owned by Jason and Libby Caswell in St. Paul, Adams Township. Petition 2022-21 was approved.
