The Greensburg-Decatur County Animal Shelter is celebrating a successful year as it works toward achieving No-Kill status. Shelter officials report that the live save rate has remained above 90% for most of 2025, and if the trend continues, the milestone could officially be reached by November.
To help more animals find homes, the shelter is currently offering special adoption rates. Barn cats are free, while all other cats can be adopted for just $20. Dogs are available for $85, with each adoption including 12 complimentary training sessions through Cora’s K9 Solutions.
All cats adopted from the shelter are spayed or neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV, vaccinated (including rabies), treated for fleas, ticks, and worms, and microchipped. Dogs are spayed or neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies), microchipped, and receive flea, tick, and worm treatments.
The shelter is also making community connections this fall. Staff and volunteers hosted a booth at the Tree City Fall Festival, where they featured sign-ups for the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, volunteer and foster opportunities, animal bios, giveaways, and even some visits from shelter pets and staff members’ personal pets.
The shelter will participate in Tripp’s Trunk or Treat event as its next outreach opportunity coming up quickly on October 18, 2025.
