Decatur County Community Foundation’s Annual meeting

The Decatur County Community Foundation recently held its 2025 annual meeting at the new community building at the Decatur County fairgrounds.

DCCF’s 2025 board president, Rick Nobbe, reported on many of the year’s highlights, beginning with the Foundation’s $5M mental health grant from Lilly Endowment. The grant funded the creation of a Crisis Intervention Team, which partners local law enforcement with mental health professionals to evaluate appropriate response in crisis situations. In addition to the CIT, the mental health grant funded eight other local projects that filled mental health gaps in the community.

Nobbe reported that the Foundation awarded 105 scholarships totaling $299,504 last year. An additional $369,725.90 was granted to projects ranging from a new walk-in freezer for the Bread of Life, equipment for Decatur County’s Marching Arts band, a community garden at the Decatur County Health Department, and 21 others.

In 2025, the Foundation had 443 donors, including, 187 first-time givers. The vast majority of donor dollars are invested, and the interest off those investments is awarded in grants and scholarships each year.

Nobbe recognized a number of community projects that the Foundation was involved with last year, including the first-ever Underground Railroad Festival, Visit Greensburg’s Summer Concert Series, Next Level trail extension, the Friends of Greensburg Golf Course passthrough fund, the fairgrounds building project, and the new pool. He also acknowledged the 2025 Stephen Decatur recipients, Paul and RoJeanna Pank. A 2026 winner will be named later this spring.

The evening ended with presentations by Decatur County Commissioner Gabriel Nobbe speaking on the new community building and status of the new pool. Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Eggleston rounded out the evening with statistics on the success of the local CIT program. CIT responded to 534 calls over the last 13 months which resulted in 73 individuals being transported to mental health facilities and another 11 who were diverted from jail to a mental health care facility.
