Evelyn June (Powers) Anders, 82, passed away on September 18, 2026. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend whose life was centered around the people she loved most. Family meant everything to Evelyn, and some of the most special memories her family will carry with them are simply the times everyone was together. Christmas was especially important to Evelyn. She loved having everyone over to celebrate. There may not have always been much room, but that never mattered. Everyone squeezed in together because Christmas at Grandma’s was about being with family. Those crowded rooms filled with conversation, laughter, food, and the people she loved are memories her family will forever cherish. Evelyn had an incredible talent for creating things with her hands. Over the years, she made scarves, blankets, placemats, and beautiful baby blankets for those she loved. One of her most impressive creations was a full afghan of the United States flag. The things she made were more than crafts. They were made with love, and many of them will remain treasured keepsakes and reminders of her for generations to come. Evelyn also enjoyed the quieter things in life and loved spending time working through her crossword and puzzle books. She spent many years working in accounting. Evelyn worked in the accounting department at Eaton Lauth and later worked in accounting at Worldwide Motors, where she remained until her retirement.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Earl Edward Anders; her parents, Dorothy M. Powers and William Powers; her brother, Johnny Bill Powers; her infant sister, Betty Marie Powers; and her son in law, Randy Bratcher.
She is survived by her son, Eddie Anders and his wife, Rhonda, and her daughter, Rose Bratcher; her grandchildren, Jason Truitt and his wife, Krystle; Christopher Anders and his fiancée, Sarah Morris; and Matthew Anders and his wife, Camryn; and her five great grandchildren, Grayson, Elijah, Hope, Gabrielle, and Lillian.
Evelyn leaves behind so much more than the things she made or the years she lived. She leaves behind Christmas memories, handmade blankets, crowded rooms full of family, and generations of people who knew they were loved. Although her place at those family gatherings will be deeply missed, the love she poured into her family will remain with them always.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg, Indiana from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral at 1:00 pm. Rev. Ted Chalk will be officiating. Burial will take place at Van Pelt Cemetery in Waldron immediately following the funeral service. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Hospital.
