Controlled Water Release Planned at Lake McCoy Dam

Greensburg, Indiana – The Lake McCoy Conservancy, in coordination with the Indiana

Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Water, engineering consultants, and

excavating contractors, continues to actively monitor and address structural concerns

identified at the Lake McCoy Dam.

Lake McCoy Dam is located approximately four miles east of the City of Greensburg o

State Road 46 between County Road 400 East and County Road 480 East in Decatur

County.

The controlled release is expected to continue today (6/22/2026) until the lake reaches a

target elevation established by engineers. A similar controlled release was conducted

yesterday, and no negative impacts to public safety or downstream areas were identified.

Inclement weather prevented the completion of the planned release yesterday, and

additional water will be released today to complete the operation.

At this time, no danger to the public is anticipated. Residents along Cobbs Fork Creek and

other downstream areas may notice increased water flow and elevated creek levels;

however, significant impacts are not expected.

The public is encouraged to:

• Stay away from the dam and downstream waterways during the controlled release

operation.

• Use caution near creeks, streams, and low-water crossings that may experience

increased flows.

• Never drive through floodwaters or over flooded roadways.

• Monitor o icial information sources for updates and instructions.

• Review personal emergency plans and be prepared to act should conditions change.
