Greensburg, IN – June 2, 2026 – The future of healthcare begins with students who choose to serve others, and Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) is proud to invest in that future.
This year, DCMH awarded multiple $1,000 scholarships to local students from Greensburg Community High School, North Decatur Jr./Sr. High School, and South Decatur Jr./Sr. High School in Decatur County who have chosen to pursue careers in healthcare. These individuals represent academic achievement and a deep commitment to compassion, service, and community.
Annie Swinney, Staff Development Coordinator at DCMH, said, “I have the distinct honor of working closely with our local high school programs and seeing firsthand the passion and potential of students pursuing careers in healthcare.”
On behalf of DCMH, Swinney shared the organization’s pride in recognizing this year’s scholarship recipients.
“It is truly an honor to be here today to recognize such an outstanding group of students,” Swinney said. “Each of you represents the very foundation of what we value at DCMH.”
Swinney emphasized the core values reflected in each recipient’s journey.
“Through your actions, your academic commitment, and your desire to serve others, you have demonstrated our core values: integrity, compassion, quality, and community,” Swinney said.
She went on to highlight what those values represent in action:
• Integrity in the commitment to learning and doing what is right
• Compassion in the desire to care for others during vulnerable moments
• Quality in the pursuit of excellence and continuous growth
• Community through the decision to give back and make a difference locally
“The future of healthcare is bright, and it is bright because of you,” Swinney said. “Looking out at this group of students today, there is no doubt that the next generation of healthcare professionals is ready to rise to that challenge.”
DCMH leadership echoed that sentiment.
“Investing in students who are pursuing healthcare careers is one of the most meaningful ways we can strengthen the future of care in our community,” said Rex McKinney, President and CEO of Decatur County Memorial Hospital. “These scholarships represent belief in these students’ potential and in the future of healthcare in Decatur County.”
DCMH remains committed to building strong partnerships with local schools and engaging students early in their educational journey.
“At DCMH, we are deeply committed to investing in that future,” McKinney said. “We are making a concerted effort to partner with our local schools, engage students early, and create meaningful opportunities that inspire careers in healthcare.”
DCMH believes these scholarships reflect a broader mission to support and develop the next generation of healthcare professionals.
