Can you believe that it is almost time for the Decatur County 4-H Fair? The sounds of laughter, smells of fair food cooking, and listening to the bands play. I know that I am excited and I hope that you are as well.
I believe one of the best parts of the fair is the parade, but I may be a bit biased as I have been part of organizing it for a few years. Each year everyone has questions about the fair and I hope to answer those questions below.
The parade theme is Harvesting the American Dream. We as a committee are celebrating our county, 4H’s hard work, and our countries 250th.
The parade line up will begin at 2pm and the parade will officially start at 4pm on Sunday July 12th. The parade route will begin at the corner of S. Ireland and Park Rd. The route will turn right on Park Rd and proceed to the gravel drive located before the Animal Shelter. We will turn left onto that gravel road and then turn right when we reach the horse barn. (We would like to remind parade entries to please hold all noise makers and horns while immediately in front of the horse barns.) We will proceed up into the fairgrounds going in front of the Headquarters Building and then beside of the Commercial Building. We will exit between the Community Building and the Farm & Home Building. If you are unloading we will ask you to turn left towards the Decatur County Highway Garage. If you are leaving we will have you turn right and proceed out to Main St.
Four $25 Awards will be available:
-Parade Entry that aligns with the parade theme
-Most enthusiasm
-Best Designed
-Entry with the most riders/walkers
Have you forgotten to get your organization entered into the parade? It’s okay though you still have time. We will be accepting entries until July 1st that would be printed in the line up that will be available on July 5th. If you forget to get registered we are happy to have you still come. You will just be placed at the end of the line up.
To sign up for the parade or if you have questions please call or text me at 812-593-6537 or email me at crameyconsulting@gmail.com.
