The meeting began with the approval of the May 19, 2025, meeting minutes, claims and payroll claims.
Todd Houk, Highway Department provided his report and stated that the department continues to perform general maintenance. He said that he will be attending a conference Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Todd is working on 2024-2 close out paperwork. Beginning 6/9/25 the contractor will begin chip and seal work throughout the county. Commissioner Brian Wenning asked that the department continue to be proactive and ensure that some concerns from last year including rocks and material ending up in homeowner’s yards during chip and seal work. Commissioner Jeremy Pasel asked Todd to maintain contact with David Henderson and 911 to ensure they are kept up to date on what section of roads are being worked on so that they can ensure that residents are aware. Todd submitted his 2024 Annual Report to LTOP. Commissioners Pasel & Wenning stated that they were not ready to make a decision on the Highway Department contracting with Enterprise due to additional questions.
Chad Smith, County Attorney presented the Pool Ordinance for its second reading. Chad stated that he did make adjustments to the definition section of the ordinance. Commissioners reminded attendees this is only relevant for Semi-Public Pools and Public Pools and specifically excludes residential pools. The commissioners approved Ordinance 2025-7 Pool Ordinance on its second reading.
The commissioners approved a quote received to replace the remaining shingle section of roofing on the courthouse for the amount of $29,927.58.
The commissioners appointed Gary Hash as Interim EMA Director following the resignation of Brad Speer. Interviews are scheduled for June 9, 2025, for a new Director but Commissioner Wenning added that the interview process could take some time.
The commissioners reviewed bids to perform work on the HVAC system at the courthouse but decided not to make any decisions so that they can gather more information and the needs for the specific work mentioned. This topic will be on the next commissioner meeting agenda.
Commissioner Pasel provided an update on the 2025 Decatur County 4-H Fair.
Commissioners currently are accepting bids for providing port-a-lets for the 2025 Decatur County 4-H Fair. All bids are due by noon on 6/13/25. Additional information can be provided by the Auditors office.
Commissioners approved use of facilities for the courthouse lawn for the YMCA Rolling Bike Tour on June 28, 2025, 11:30a-2:30p.
Commissioners would like to remind everyone that the Area Plan Commission meets at 6:30pm on 6/4/25 with the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting afterwards.
