The commissioners approved the prior meeting minutes, claims, and payroll claims.
The commissioners approved seven rezoning requests that had already been approved by the Area Plan Commission.
Doug Westerfeld provided an update on the Comprehensive Plan. He stated that 75 completed surveys had been received. He said the steering committee continues to meet to move the plan forward.
Tim Ortman updated the commissioners on work that will be completed by AYPA Power before construction begins. He added that work will be done on the intersection of Highway 3. Tim also informed the commissioners that he is considering replacing two to three dump trucks because the current trucks are past their prime.
Andy Scholle provided information to the commissioners about the Flat Rock Watershed Project. Andy said he recently attended a meeting with surrounding county surveyors. They are looking at creating ordinances that would be consistent across counties to identify and plan for watershed issues on the Flat Rock River.
Alicia Nobbe presented and received approval for a grant she applied for through the Decatur County Health Department. The department will receive $5,000 in reimbursement funding for creating and conducting a self-assessment. Once that is completed, they will determine how they align with the Food & Drug Administration and create a strategic plan. They also applied for and received $3,500 in reimbursement funding to attend training in Kansas City, Missouri.
Brady Claxton of McGowan Insurance presented and received approval to continue using Travelers Insurance as the county’s main insurance carrier. It was noted that Travelers was $15,000 more expensive than Liberty Mutual, but Liberty Mutual had significantly higher deductibles.
The commissioners opened two bids for portable restrooms for the Decatur County 4-H Fair. The lowest bid was submitted by Port-A-Let Sanitation, and the bid was awarded to the company as the lowest bidder.
The commissioners introduced Matthew Speer as the new Animal Shelter Director. The commissioners and the Animal Control Board created objectives for Matthew to achieve during his first six months of employment. The commissioners are also working with the Community Foundation to open an account for capital campaigns for a new animal shelter.
The commissioners reviewed layouts for the new EMA storage building and approved an additional $6,000 for the architect to make revisions to the plans.
