Decatur County Council

The Decatur County Council met on Tuesday.

Coroner Doug Banks came to the board to request additional funding of $10,000 for autopsies. They had carry over from 2020-2021 and October has been an extremely busy month. It takes about 6-8 weeks to get reports back on autopsies and these may end up carrying over to 2022. This will be brought back to next months meeting. The council approved to sign a letter for a new vehicle for the coroners office.

Sheriff Durant came to the board to discuss the Covid stipend. This will be paid out of commissary. All employees will receive $1,000. The sheriff also discussed the maintenance salary. They paid for the salary last year and they are requesting an additional for the council to pay their half of the salary. This is for $24,000. This was approved.

Adina Roberts presented Resolution 2021-20, for vote centers. They have held a public meeting and waited the 30 day commentary period. The 2 comments they received were positive. This was approved.

Dorene Greiwe came to the board to discuss salaries within her office. They are requesting to not fill one deputy accessor spot and instead split the salary among the other deputies. This would give each girl, including herself, a $5,000 raise and the rest would be put into part time. The council believes that this could open a can of worms. The sheriff mentioned that they should applaud employees for doing extra work and being more efficient. The council approved this with the exception that each girl will only receive $4,000.

There will be a study done on all of the offices next year.

All additionals were approved. All transfers were approved.
