Governor Braun again prioritizes transparency for Hoosiers.
INDIANAPOLIS – Gov. Mike Braun announced on Thursday that Indiana is expanding the Indiana Health Prices platform (formerly the Indiana All Payer Claims Database) to bring comprehensive prescription resources, hospital cash prices, and voluntary provider submissions together in one place. The integration of these tools will make it easier for Hoosier families to understand, compare and save on healthcare.
Indiana Health Prices is a statewide database that collects healthcare claims information from insurers and other sources to provide transparent comparable price information. Hoosiers have access to transparent comparable price information backed by nearly two billion claims records.
“Transparency and affordability drive competition and lower healthcare costs. Indiana Health Prices integrates hospital cash prices, provider-contributed data, and expanded prescription resources in one platform so Hoosiers can compare and save with confidence. That includes searching the PatientRightsAdvocate.org Hospital Drug Price Finder tool to compare hospital drug cash and plan prices and see differences across hospitals and regions.”— Governor Mike Braun
The new name, Indiana Health Prices, strengthens the tool’s primary purpose of helping Hoosiers make informed comparisons about what they pay for healthcare. The new name clearly communicates the focus on cost transparency while reflecting the ongoing expansion of the resource to include multiple external data sources and additional price information. It also makes it easier for residents to identify what they may pay for services, whether through insurance or cash prices.
The platform offers several resources:
- Indiana Health Prices Chatbot: The newly launched Indiana Health Prices Chatbot expands the public’s ability to navigate healthcare cost information by offering:
- Interactive, guided responses that simplify complex searches.
- Unified access to relevant information from several state websites
- A centralized, one-stop resource for health cost and utilization data
- 24/7 availability for residents, researchers, policymakers, and healthcare providers
- Cash Prices Transparency: Hospital cash prices are incorporated directly into the Indiana Health Prices platform. This includes cash prices for services performed in hospital settings, which will appear in existing dashboards and the chatbot, further enhancing the tool’s comprehensive capabilities.
- Expanded Provider Data Submission: Providers and laboratories are invited to voluntarily submit pricing and service information. A new submission layout now enables labs and doctors’ offices to contribute data, broadening transparency and helping Hoosiers shop for services of all types. Providers may download FAQs and submission formats or contact apcd@idoi.in.gov to get started.
- New Prescription Resources Tab: The updated Prescription Resources section now links to external tools including:
As Indiana earns national recognition for innovation, the state continues to enhance tools that help consumers compare prices, find lower-cost alternatives, and get real-time guidance through a nationally recognized chatbot available around the clock.
Indiana recently received the National Innovation in Data Dissemination Award from the National Association of Health Data Organizations (NAHDO). Established in 2009, this annual award recognizes outstanding leadership in making health data accessible, understandable, and useful to the public.
Indiana Health Prices provides residents, policymakers, and the healthcare community with trusted, transparent insights into healthcare costs and utilization across the state.
