Time is running out for supporters to cast their votes for Gibson Miller, who is in the running to be named Youth Athlete of the Year. Voting closes Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 7 p.m. PDT. The winner will be featured in a 3BRAND ad in Sports Illustrated and awarded a $25,000 prize.
To vote- Gibson | Youth Athlete of the Year
“Gibson is an extremely talented athlete who plays four sports and has competed against his two older brothers since he was just 2 years old,” said his mother, Suzanne Miller.
Athletics run deep in the Miller family. Gibson’s grandfather, Dyar Miller, was a Major League Baseball pitcher, and both of his parents and brothers have athletic backgrounds. Gibson himself looks to NBA star Stephen Curry as a role model, admiring Curry’s shooting, ball-handling, and playmaking ability, as well as his faith and positive outlook.
For Suzanne Miller, this contest carries an even deeper meaning. She shared that her appreciation for organizations like the Why Not You Foundation which promotes equal education opportunities, children’s health initiatives, and food security grew after her daughter, Gabby, faced a life-altering health crisis.
“In December 2023, Gabby was stricken with a very rare disease that left her paralyzed from the waist down. After 55 days in Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, she came home in a wheelchair. Today, after multiple surgeries and therapy sessions, she is able to walk with a walker and continues to overcome obstacles every day with a smile on her face,” Suzanne said.
Through Gibson’s participation in the Youth Athlete of the Year competition, the Miller family has been able to showcase not only his athletic ability but also raise awareness for the mission-driven organizations behind the contest.
The Youth Athlete of the Year competition is a collaboration between the V Foundation, Sports Illustrated, 3BRAND, and the Why Not You Foundation. Supporters can vote once per day for free, with additional votes available through donations that benefit the V Foundation and Why Not You Foundation.
The current round, ending this Thursday, will determine the Group Finalists. If Gibson advances, he will compete in four more rounds. The Grand Prize Winner will be announced on or before October 17, 2025.
