Local High School Honored for Excellence in Global Education

North Decatur Jr-Sr High School has received national recognition for its outstanding commitment to global learning from EF High School Exchange Year, the nation’s leader in high school exchange programs.

Each year, the EF Global Education Excellence Award is given to schools that demonstrate exceptional dedication to fostering international understanding and cultural exchange.

North Decatur Jr-Sr High School is among an elite group of schools and districts across the United States to receive this prestigious honor for the 2024-2025 school year.

“North Decatur Jr-Sr High School has gone above and beyond in creating an inclusive, globally-minded learning environment,” said Teresa Metz EF, Regional Director of EF High School Exchange Year. “Welcoming exchange students into their classrooms has enriched both the students and faculty, providing valuable cross-cultural experiences. This year, we are especially grateful for their unwavering support in keeping international student exchange alive during a uniquely challenging time.”

In Spring 2025, NDHS welcomed 3 exchange students through EF High School Exchange Year. These students didn’t just attend school—they became an integral part of academic life, extracurricular activities, and the greater community.

One of this year’s exchange students, Maria Gomez from Spain, shared their experience:

“My time at NDHS has been unforgettable. I had the chance to participate in cheerleading, which I never could have done at home. What I love most about being a charger is experiencing school spirit. I loved attending the games and being a part of the charger cheer block. I’ll always cherish my time in Greensburg, Indiana, and I know I’ll always be welcome here.”

Local exchange coordinator Pamela C Rennekamp echoed the appreciation:

“We are so grateful to NDHS for opening its doors to students from around the world. Thanks to the incredible generosity of administrators, teachers, students, and families, these exchange students had a life-changing experience and formed lasting connections in our community.”
