The National Weather Service Indianapolis presented Decatur County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) with their StormReady Certification.
Decatur County Executive Director Mike Snyder has been working diligently to update protocols, and processes so that the department would earn this certification.
Mike Ryan, National Weather Service Indianapolis Representative presented during the media briefing today. He stated that he has been proud to partner with the Decatur County EMA. After careful review of the counties protocols, procedures, and communication opportunities to the citizens of Decatur County and to partner agencies within the county and to NWS. It was found that Decatur County was eligible for certification.
This certification looks at everything before, during, and after a weather situation.
Mike Ryan stated that the NWS Indianapolis currently is responsible for 39 counties and he believes that Decatur County is the 22nd or 23rd to become certified. Ryan went on to state, “This certification shows that Decatur County EMA has taken the steps needed to protect their citizens from weather related incidents.”
Weather incidents include tornados, thunderstorms, flooding, extreme heat, extreme cold, snow events, droughts, and several more.
