Rotarian of the Year Awarded to Roger Dumond

As the Rotary Club of Greensburg 3437, District 6580, winds down its Rotary year, Club President Mike Sefton presented longtime Rotarian Roger Dumond with the club’s prestigious Jack Hurst Rotarian of the Year Award during the Monday, June 1 meeting.

President Sefton will conclude his term at the club’s June 8 meeting, when year-end awards are traditionally presented. However, because Dumond will be unable to attend that meeting, the recognition was presented a week early.

Sefton reflected on a friendship with Dumond dating back to the mid-1970s, sharing several humorous memories from their decades of friendship. One story centered on an Indiana Hoosiers basketball game the two attended together in 1985, illustrating the long history they share despite Dumond’s unwavering loyalty to the Purdue Boilermakers.

Sefton highlighted Dumond’s 25 years of dependable service to the Rotary Club of Greensburg. Throughout the years, Dumond has been a consistent presence at Rotary projects and events, including community cleanups, archery tournaments, park activities, and numerous other service initiatives that exemplify Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self.”

He also noted that Dumond first received the Rotarian of the Year honor in 1990, making this recognition especially meaningful as the second time he has earned the award.

In accepting the honor, Dumond said he was both grateful and humbled, particularly because the award is named after Jack Hurst. He recalled Hurst as a deeply committed Rotarian whose perfect attendance record and dedication to service set an enduring example for club members.

Joining Dumond for the presentation were his wife, Cheryl, along with one of their daughters and one of their granddaughters, who shared in the special occasion.

The Rotary Club of Greensburg extends its sincere appreciation to Roger Dumond for his many years of dedication, leadership, and service to the club, the community, and Rotary International District 6580.

Rotary International is a volunteer service organization with more than 1.5 million members worldwide. The Rotary Club of Greensburg meets each Monday at noon at The Branch Gathering Place and Coffee House.
