Westport Town Council

Westport Town Council met on Monday. The council signed the funeral deeds, payroll vouchers, adjustments, and monthly bills.

There was an update on the Westport Water Projects. The project is close to final wrap up and there are only small items that need to be addressed. They are trying to get the storm water issues fixed, however it takes time and a plan. The first step of the plan is the upcoming storm water study that will help them pinpoint the problems and come up with solutions. Ordinance 2022-1, to amend the schedule of rates, was approved. Ordinance 2022-2, to authorize the acquisition, construction, and installation of certain improvements for the sewage work system of Westport, was approved. Ordinance 2022-3, to amend 2020-7 and waive all minimum water usage fees for the initial and final months, was approved.

Resolution 2022-2, to void all outstanding checks dating back 2 years and for the clerk to return the amounts, was approved.

Carol Nobbe came to the board to discuss fines for a rental property cleanup. This cleanup has not happened to the council’s standards and what needs to be done can’t as long as renters still live there. This includes filling the base with hydrated lime to help stop the waste leakage. The problem alleged is that the whole ground, even past the home, is contaminated. If IDEM were to find out they would shut it down and haul all the dirt out at the owners expense since it would be considered a biohazard. The councils biggest concern is the health and safety of others and the property needs to be inspected. The board approved to drop the fines so long as the property and waste issue is cleaned up before the property is sold or rented again.

Darryl Wolterman came to the board to request approval for a rezone. The previous property the board approved was not approved by the APC, so this is a backup property. The board gave their approval.

The board approved $3,723 for maintenance at the water plant.

All water bill adjustments were approved.
