David Leon Hileman, 81

David Leon Hileman, 81, of Westport, passed away at 11:02 AM on Wednesday, April
30, 2025, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born on August 2, 1943, in Peru,
Indiana the son of Floyd and Sadie (Henry) Hileman. He was a 1961 graduate of
Mexico High School in Mexico, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana State
University in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and received his Master of
Science Degree in 1970 from Indiana State University. He taught at Oak Hill
School Corporation from 1967-1968, Clinton Prairie School Corporation from 1968-
1969 and Decatur County School Corporation from 1969-2001 which included Burney,
North Decatur High School and South Decatur High School. He coached football,
golf and social studies academic teams. He was elected to the Sandcreek Township
Advisory Board in 2006. Dave was a member of the Westport Methodist Church, the
Indiana Retired Teachers and Decatur County Retired Teachers. He enjoyed playing
golf, reading and helping his friends. He married Catherine Ellen Madigan on
July 30, 1967, at the First Methodist Church in Shelbyville, Indiana. She
preceded him in death on November 9, 2013. He married Jo Ann (Adams) Smith on
May 27, 2018, at the Westport Methodist Church and she survives. Other survivors
include his daughter, Stephanie (Bill) Black of Sellersburg; his son, Terrence
(Autumn) Hileman of Columbus; stepdaughter, Laura Bressette of Westport;
brothers, Roland (Mary) Hileman and Alan (Emma) Hileman both of Denver, Indiana;
grandchildren, Emilyn Grace Ross, Ethan Finn Hileman, Ezekiel Lane Hileman,
Catherine Black and Branson Black. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 st
wife, Cathy; sisters, Judy Ellis and Betty Robinson; brothers, Gene Hileman and
Darrell Hileman. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May
6, 2025, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with cremation to follow.
Rev. Ellaine Hussung will be officiating. Burial will take place at a later date
at Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Monday, May 5 from
4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to
