Harry E. Smith, 82, of Scipio, passed away at 9:07 p.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at his daughter’s residence. He was born on October 24, 1939 in Indianapolis, the son of Harry O. & Irene D. (Huffman) Smith. He had lived the majority of his life in Scipio. Harry was a longtime farmer and also drove a semi-truck for CowCo Livestock Equipment. He was a member of the Scipio Methodist Church and enjoyed tractor pulling and woodworking. He married J. Darlene Hines in Scipio on February 22, 1959 and she preceded him in death on September 8, 2021. Survivors include his daughters, Deanna (Patrick) Ross of North Vernon and Dodie (Jay) Smith of Columbus; his grandchildren, Lauren (Adam) Megel of Columbus, Kristen (Matt) Hurley of Columbus, Josh Ford of Bloomington,
Austin Smith of Indianapolis and Cassidy (Adam) Duell of Greensburg; his great grandchildren, Abigail Megel, Madelyn Megel, Emmaline Megel and Grant Hurley. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jeannine Coy. The funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the
Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Sarah Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at the Scipio Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. We ask visitors to follow social distancing guidelines inside the funeral home and masks are recommended.
