Ruth J. Knecht, 88

Ruth (Scheidler) Knecht, wife of Albert Knecht, of Greensburg passed away Thursday December 24, 2020 at Aspen Place Health Campus. 

Ruth was born in Greensburg on March 12, 1932 to Bernard “Ben” and Laura (Tebbe) Scheidler. Her mother died when Ruth was a year and half old and her father later married Loretta (Moeller) Scheidler.  Ruth was the youngest of four children and later had a younger sister born to Ben and Loretta.

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1950. Ruth went to work at the Indiana Gas Company where she was a secretary. When starting her family, Ruth was a homemaker and did a lot of sewing, while taking care of her children.

Later, when the children were all in school, she took a job at Rosenmund Elementary as a teacher’s assistant for eleven years.  She then went to work at Taff Furniture Store for eight years.  Ruth and Al retired and enjoyed traveling to all the States.  Her biggest enjoyment came from her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  She also was a member of the Alpha Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Daughters of Isabella, and former board member at September Place.  Ruth was a volunteer for Hospice of Decatur County, delivered meals on wheels, and volunteered at the gift shop of Decatur County Memorial Hospital. 

She was married to Albert A. Knecht on April 30, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg and he survives.

She is also survived by one daughter, Jane (Chuck) Storie, Greensburg; four sons, Keith (Shelly) Knecht, Greensburg, Ronald Knecht, Fishers, Michael Knecht, Batesville, Daryl (Brenda) Knecht, Zionsville; 17 grandchildren, Emily Storie, Melissa (Nick) Wallpe, Craig Storie, Spencer (Lauren) Storie, Kayleigh (Keith) Brown, Mitchell (Maria) Knecht, Madison Knecht, Tanner Knecht, Matthew (Casey) Knecht, Kelli Jo Knecht, Alexandria Knecht, Josh Knecht, Molly (Conner) Barr, Ben Knecht, Sam Knecht, Gracie Knecht, and Jack Knecht; 9 great grandchildren, Andrew, Abigail, Ellie, Hudson, Reed, Bennett, Rylee, Harper, and Hunter; three sisters, Betty Meyer, Greensburg, Dorine Bruns, Greensburg, Carole Effron, Carmel.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Herb Scheidler.

A private Mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating and will be broadcast on the funeral home Facebook page on Tuesday, December 29th at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
