Celebration of 40-years of service

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY SHERIFF’S LIEUTENANT T. A. SMITH

HONORED FOR 40 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE

Bartholomew County…Tuesday was a special day at the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.  Lieutenant Thomas Allen Smith (T. A. Smith) was presented a “Certificate of Service” by Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers for his 40 Years of Service to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Bartholomew County.

It read in part:  …humbly thank you for the example you have set and the standards you have upheld.  Your commendable qualities and dedicated service are truly an example of Indiana’s finest…

Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers said: “T.A. comes into work with his same presence that I remember when I was 13-years-old”.  “His shoes are shined, his attitude toward our community and law enforcement is positive and he is an excellent example to the other members of our BCSO Team”.  “Forty years and seven Sheriffs later – T. A. still cares about our agency and about people”, added Sheriff Myers.

Thank you for your years of talents and efforts.  We take pride in your accomplishment and your commitment to excellence.

Lieutenant Smith is one of a select few, less than one-percent of our country’s law enforcement officers, who has graduated from the National FBI Academy.

Lt. Smith said: “I have been around since 1982 and I have seen our Sheriff’s Office change from what I would refer to as “Mayberry RFD” to the department we have today”.  “Through the years (and 7 sheriffs) we have realized that BCSO is no longer a small community’s Sheriff’s Office”.

“Today, our agency has prospered above and beyond when it comes to many areas including training, drug seizures and professionalism”.  “Our community interaction has skyrocketed and that makes me very proud”, added Smith.  “I look forwarded to continuing to serve this agency and the citizens of Bartholomew County”.

Congratulations to Lieutenant T.A. Smith for 40 Years of Service to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Bartholomew County.

WTRE footnote: Smith is a 1975 graduate of South Decatur Jr./Sr. High School
