Leising: General Assembly kicks off 2026 session

STATEHOUSE (Nov. 18, 2025) — State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) gathered with fellow legislators today at the Statehouse for Organization Day – the ceremonial start of the Indiana General Assembly.

Organization Day marks the annual first roll call of all state lawmakers. This day also provides members of the Senate and House of Representatives with the opportunity to meet before session officially reconvenes on Jan. 5. By state law, the 2026 session will conclude on or before March 14.

“This session, I will focus on many issues including those I studied during the interim, like promoting our public lands and ensuring they are managed properly and continuing work to address issues facing our farms and rural communities,” Leising said. “I look forward to solving the management of historic sites and mandating the teaching of printing, spelling and cursive writing.”

As the 2026 session gets underway, Leising encourages residents of Senate District 42 to contact her with any questions or comments they may have. Leising can be reached by filling out a “Contact Me” form online at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/Leising or by phone at 800-382-9467.
