Traffic stop leads to drug-related arrest in Bartholomew County


On June 24, 2021, approximately 1:01 a.m., Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a traffic stop at 10th Street/National Road.

During the stop, deputies observed suspicious behavior from the occupants. K9 Argo was deployed and alerted to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. Deputies located approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine, pills and spice on the driver who identified himself by a false name. Once he was correctly identified as Mark A. Elkins, 59, Indianapolis, he was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Marion County.

Elkins was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges involving allegations of:

Dealing in methamphetamine

Possession of methamphetamine

Possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug

Active warrant

Elkins remains in BCJ without bond.

All persons are considered innocent unless/until proven guilty in a court of law.
