Former Washington Township Trustee Christian Rust’s Court Case Update

Former Washington Township Trustee Christian Rust’s court case continues to move through the legal system, with several developments occurring since WTRE News’ last update on October 7, 2025.

On November 12, 2025, Michael J. Mahoney, Henry County Prosecutor, was appointed as Special Prosecutor in the case.

A pretrial conference was held on December 2, 2025. Court records indicate the hearing was commenced and concluded with Mahoney appearing via telephone.

Rust later filed an Interlocutory Appeal with the Indiana Court of Appeals on December 4, 2025. However, on January 9, 2026, the Indiana Court of Appeals denied the Appellant’s Unopposed Motion to Accept Jurisdiction over the Interlocutory Appeal.

At this time, the next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 28, 2026, for a pretrial conference. A jury trial is currently set to begin on June 23, 2026, with three to four days reserved for proceedings.
