Alfred Harry Diekhoff, 87, of Westport, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 27, 1934 in Jennings County, the son of Joseph B. And Lenora R. (Zapfe) Diekhoff. He had graduated from Jennings County High School in 1952 and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen and had served 36 years on the Columbia Township Advisory Board. He was an avid NASCAR fan and hardly missed a race. If he was in the field he would listen to the race on the radio. He received a trophy from Jennings County for raising the most corn in the county for 2 years in a row. The 1st year he had 160 plus bushels and was close to having the most in the state of Indiana.
He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army. Alfred married Bernice M. Volk on September 1, 1958 at the St. Maurice Catholic Church and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughters, Marcia (Phil) Kramer of Greensburg and Michelle Veerkamp of Greenfield; sons, Michael Diekhoff of West Virginia, Mark (LeeAnn) Diekhoff of Greensburg and Matthew (Jennifer) Diekhoff of Westport; sisters, Esther (Eddie) Hill of Russiaville and Helen Kramer of Greensburg; brothers, Arthur (Ann) Diekhoff of North Vernon, Maurice (Barbara) Diekhoff of Columbus, Lawrence Diekhoff of North Vernon and Bernard Diekhoff of Greensburg; 9 grandchildren, Vanessa Veerkamp, Grant Veerkamp, Macy Diekhoff, Drew Diekhoff, Luke Diekhoff, Austin Diekhoff, Landon Diekhoff, Jordan Kramer, Jaxson Kramer and 1 great grandson, Daylin James Diekhoff. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Elizabeth Kristine Kramer; grandson, Alex Veerkamp; sister, Rose Ann Schwering; brothers, Walter Diekhoff and Francis Diekhoff. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen with Father Jay officiating. Burial will follow at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will prayed at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022. A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Bass and Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. We ask visitors to follow social distancing guidelines inside the funeral home and masks are recommended.
