Classic Brownies from the Rosenmund PTA Cookbook
There is nothing quite like the charm of a vintage community cookbook. The grease stains on the pages, the simple ingredients, and the names of neighbors and friends printed next to their signature dishes remind us of what makes our community so special.
This week, we are throwing it back exactly fifty years to the 1976-77 Rosenmund PTA Cookbook.
If you grew up around here, the cover of this comb-bound classic will immediately bring back memories of school days. Flipping through the pages, you’ll also spot some legendary local business sponsors from the era, including Tom Sibbitt Chevrolet-Cadillac (“If It’s Not Right, Tom Sibbitt Will Make It Right.”), Books & Things, and Stephenson’s Jewelry Store on Main Street.
But let’s talk about the main event: Judy Morrison’s Classic Brownies.
This is a foolproof, scratch-made recipe from an era before boxed mixes completely took over the baking aisle. It uses simple pantry staples to create a perfectly dense, rich chocolate square.
