WTRE Recipe of the Week: Wanda Burdine’s Apple Crisp
Welcome back to another WTRE Recipe of the Week! There is nothing quite like digging through the pages of a classic community cookbook to find a true, comforting gem. This week, we are pulling a fantastic recipe straight from the Pershing Twp. Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Cookbook.
If you are looking for a simple, sweet treat to whip up this week, look no further than Wanda Burdine’s Apple Crisp. With a bright hint of orange juice and a perfectly spiced corn flake crunch, this is bound to become a fast favorite in your kitchen.
Here is everything you need to make it tonight:
Apple Crisp

Ingredients:
- 2 c. corn flake crumbs
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. grated orange rind
- 4 apples, peeled and sliced
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/3 c. orange juice
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 1-quart baking dish.
- Mix the corn flake crumbs with the cinnamon and grated orange rind in a small bowl.
- Layer it up: Beginning with the crumb mixture, alternate layers with the sliced apples in your baking dish until all are used, making sure to end with a layer of crumbs on top.
- Whisk the brown sugar, white sugar, and orange juice together, then pour the mixture evenly over the top of the layers.
- Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the apples are perfectly tender.
Makes 6 servings.
